New Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah now 60% complete

Salalah: The General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate seeks to raise the level of health services in the governorate, within the plan of the Ministry of Health within the framework of the Oman Vision 2040 strategy, to achieve the principle of pioneering and sustainable health for all, as the health system witnesses further growth and development in all areas. Health care levels in line with global health systems.

Dr. Ali bin Abdullah Al-Muqbali, Director General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate, said: Health services in the governorate have witnessed growth at multiple levels and an expansion in therapeutic and interventional services at the level of Sultan Qaboos Reference Hospital and primary health care institutions, as the total number of health institutions in the governorate reached 44 Institution, including 7 local hospitals and 36 health centers.

He added: This year witnessed the introduction of new diagnostic services to Sultan Qaboos Hospital, the most important of which is the introduction of an infertility treatment clinic (IUI), a knee joint replacement (TKR) service, in addition to a pulmonary function test (PFT) device, an immunology lab test, and surgery.

Regarding the most important projects and health services developed in the governorate, the Director General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate confirmed that the current year witnessed an increase in the percentage of completion in existing development projects, including the project to build the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah at a cost of RO 138 million, and the current completion rate has reached 60.1%.

He explained that work is currently underway on the internal divisions and internal details of the building, as the project, which has an area of ​​approximately 100,000 square meters, consists of 7 floors, and more than 700 beds for admission and 3,238 rooms have been allocated to it.

It will also be provided with the latest medical devices and equipment and various medical specialties. He pointed out that the main building of the hospital includes an accident and emergency unit, a medical imaging unit, a rehabilitation unit, and a chemotherapy unit, in addition to a dialysis unit, burns and orthodontics, day clinics, and care units (children’s care – adult intensive care – stroke care – middle school), in addition to operating rooms, delivery rooms, a private ward, a VIP ward and a nuclear medicine unit.

Regarding the inpatient departments, he explained that the new hospital will include 4 surgical suites, 4 pediatric suites, 4 internal medicine suites, 4 obstetrics and gynecology suites, and 16 beds in the intensive and intermediate care unit and 31 beds in the adult intensive care unit, 15 beds in the pediatric intensive care unit, 38 beds in the neonatal and premature infants’ intensive care unit, 12 beds in the burn unit, 32 beds in the day care unit, and 32 beds in the unit Kidney dialysis, and it will include an annex consisting of a lecture hall that can accommodate 250 people, a health education department, in addition to equipment departments, medical devices, warehouses, pathology laboratories, and a central sterilization unit.

Regarding the establishment of Al Mazyouna Hospital at a cost of more than RO 15 million, the Director General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate said: The project comes within the efforts of the Ministry of Health to develop the health system in the Sultanate of Oman and raise its efficiency in line with the population increase and the requirements of the Wilayats and governorates, explaining that the percentage of the hospital now reached (76%), as the hospital’s main building includes clinics for general medicine, internal medicine, dentistry, pediatrics, surgery, ear, nose and throat, and eyes, in addition to the expanded program on immunization and obstetrics and gynecology clinics.

He added that Al-Mazyouna Hospital will contain 50 different beds and wards for men, children, women and maternity, as well as an accident and emergency unit, another for dialysis, a radiology department, a laboratory, a maternity hall, an operations unit, and care units (critical care for women – critical care for men – special care unit for children), in addition to a biomedical engineering workshop, a central sterilization unit, a medical store, a general store, and project support services.

Regarding the project to establish the Muqshin Health Center, which costs RO 1 million, the Director General of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate explained that the completion rate in it reached (62%), pointing out that the project contains general clinics, a dental clinic, and a maternity unit, in addition to the diagnostic departments represented in: X-ray and laboratory.
