Rapid Digital Transformation Advances in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate
Ibra: The North Al Sharqiyah Governorate continues to advance steadily on the path of government digital transformation, achieving tangible and qualitative progress during 2025 through the implementation of a range of digital projects and initiatives. These efforts come within the objectives of the National Government Digital Transformation Programme (Tahwul) and in line with the strategic directions of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to establish an integrated, efficient, and future-ready digital government.
Dr. Badr bin Saif Al Hatmi, Head of the Digital Transformation Team in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, stated that the number of transactions completed through the governorate’s digital channels reached 21,555 transactions during the period from January to November 2025. He explained that digitization efforts led to the automation of 14 external services and 11 internal services, contributing to improved institutional efficiency, enhanced service quality, and the creation of a more flexible and responsive operating environment for beneficiaries.
He added that the governorate witnessed the implementation of a package of digital projects and initiatives during 2025 and into 2026, most notably the preparation of the governorate’s digital strategy and the institutional digital infrastructure document. Other initiatives included the implementation of virtual reality projects to support investment marketing and the development of a smart awareness guide, as well as the use of drones to support data analysis and project planning.
Dr. Al Hatmi noted that work was completed on developing the governorate’s official website, including the addition of digital accessibility tools to enable people with disabilities and the elderly to browse the site easily and benefit from available services. The governorate also launched digital surveys to measure beneficiary satisfaction and enhance community participation in improving service delivery.
In the field of service enablement, he explained that the upgrade of the basic network infrastructure was completed in accordance with best standards and technical specifications. In addition, the Digital Transformation Ambassadors channel was launched on the “WhatsApp” platform to raise community awareness of digital transformation concepts and initiatives.
He added that the governorate also launched the “Document Management and Digital Transformation Award” to encourage the adoption of digital systems and modern technical solutions, alongside organizing specialized workshops for governorate and municipal offices on open data, including mechanisms for data collection, analysis, and effective utilization.
These achievements reflect the governorate’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation, enhancing institutional performance, and providing smart, inclusive, and efficient government services that meet the aspirations of society and support comprehensive and sustainable development.
