OCA launches genetic screening program for cancer patients

Muscat: The Oman Cancer Association, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health represented by the National Center for Genetic Health and Occidental Oman, today launched a genetic screening program for cancer patients under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

Dr. Waheed bin Ali Al Kharousi, President of the Oman Cancer Society, delivered a speech in which he valued the support that the Society had received, whether governmental or private, or from individuals since its inception, adding that the Society is currently entering its 23rd year, and at its humble beginnings it has now become a prestigious institution recognized and internationally accredited.

He pointed out that the association will continue its efforts to support cancer patients, and provide the necessary support and awareness of cancer, stressing that the genetic testing program for cancer patients is one of the most prominent sustainable programs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and partnership with Occidental Oman.

In her speech, Dr. Salimi bint Nasser Al-Lamkiya, Director of the National Center for Genetic Health, touched on the most important techniques used in genetic screening for cancer patients and its role in improving early diagnosis and effective treatment of patients with cancer.

She highlighted the importance of the program and its role in identifying risk factors, determining the most effective treatment for people with cancer, and limiting the dangerous spread of the disease in the body.
