Muscat: The “Omani Human Rights Committee” discussed, in its fifth meeting of the fourth annual session of the fourth term, developments in preparing the internal regulations of the committee in implementation of Article 9 of the committee’s work system.
The meeting also reviewed the ongoing preparations for the establishment of a Forum of Human Rights Institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, to be held in mid-September in Muscat, in the presence of human rights bodies, institutions and committees in the Gulf countries, and with the participation of representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Office of the Commissioner.
The Regional Committee in Beirut, the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions, and the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights in the League of Arab States. During the meeting, the committee reviewed the ongoing preparations for holding a cultural and human rights event at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva at the end of September 2023, which includes an accompanying exhibition that illustrates some of the work and competencies of the Omani Commission for Human Rights, its role in awareness and education, and reviews the programs it implemented during the previous period.
During its meeting, the committee also discussed the existing steps to prepare the committee’s annual report for the year 2023, which includes statistics on the committee’s efforts and its various reports to international organizations, and the awareness and education programs it implemented in cooperation with government agencies and civil society institutions.
The honorable meeting was chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Shuwain Al Hosani, Chairman of the Committee, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Committee and members.
