New York: The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate cause in their struggle for freedom from occupation. It called for a global order to be formed on foundations and standards of equality and protection of peoples and civilian populations.

This position was expressed in the Sultanate of Oman’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly’s 10th Special Emergency Session held in New York.

Titled “Illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of occupied Palestinian territories”, the speech was delivered by First Secretary, Eng. Ismail Marhoon Al Abri, member of the Permanent Delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, the speech read as follows:

The convening of this special emergency session constitutes a collective expression of rejection of collective punishment and ethnic cleansing against an entire people. Such unjust conduct allows the implementation of racist plans that we have rarely seen since World War II.

The world and peace-loving peoples will not forget the moment when Israel was given green light to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people. We affirm that the scheme of genocide and ethnic cleansing is rejected.

Israel, as the occupying authority and all parties supporting it in carrying out this crime, are held fully responsible. We deplore this this brutal aggression that causes the overthrow of legitimacy from the Security Council and the neutralization of the council’s role in maintaining international peace and security.”

Al Abri pointed out that some parties seek to silence the voice of Palestine, but, ironically, in response to this, the whole world has turned vociferous, chanting the name of Palestine and asserting that terrorism is indeed the action practiced by Israel “under the eyes and ears of the world”. – ONA
