Passenger traffic at Oman airports rises 9.2% to 8.4 million until July 2024

Muscat: The total number of passengers through the airports of the Sultanate of Oman (Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm) increased by 9.2% to stand at 8,478,548 passengers until the end of July 2024, compared to 7,757,629 passengers during the same period in 2023. The number of flights through these airports also increased by 5.7%, recording 63,219 flights, compared to 59,778 flights during the same period last year, according to preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

The center’s statistics showed that the total number of passengers traveling through Muscat International Airport reached 7,571,148 passengers by the end of July 2024, an increase of 8.9% compared to 6,949,202 passengers during the same period last year. The number of flights at this airport also increased to 56,498 international and domestic flights, by 5.8%, compared to 53,386 international and domestic flights by the end of July 2023. Omani citizens topped the number of passengers traveling through Muscat International Airport during last July, as the number of departures reached 115.8 thousand passengers and arrivals reached 100.8 thousand passengers, followed by Indian passengers with 82.9 thousand departing passengers and 99.9 thousand arriving passengers, then Pakistanis with 19.3 thousand departing passengers and 27.5 thousand arriving passengers.

The center’s statistics indicated an increase in the number of passengers traveling through Salalah Airport until the end of July 2024 to 827,486 passengers, by 10.3%, compared to 750,251 passengers during the same period last year. The number of flights at this airport also increased to 5,975 international and domestic flights, by 3.6%, compared to 5,768 international and domestic flights until the end of July 2023.

Statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information confirmed that the total number of passengers travelling through Sohar Airport reached 45,126 passengers by the end of July 2024, an increase of 114.4%, compared to 21,044 passengers during the same period last year. The number of flights at this airport also increased to 384 international and domestic flights, by 46.6%, compared to 262 international and domestic flights by the end of July 2023.

On the other hand, the number of passengers traveling through Duqm Airport until the end of July this year reached 34,788 passengers, down by 6.3%, compared to 37,132 passengers during the same period last year. While the number of flights at this airport remained stable at 362 domestic flights until the end of July 2023.
