Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman is among the best Arab countries in developing information and communication technology infrastructure said the World Bank

It pointed out in a new report published on the website that about 80 percent of the population of the Sultanate of Oman uses the Internet, pointing out that the Sultanate of Oman ranks 5th in the Arab world in the e-government development index.

The report said that the social and economic benefits would be enormous, if countries across the Middle East and North Africa were to completely digitalize their economies. However, despite the widespread use of social media, the uptake of digital technologies, such as mobile money and digital payments, has been low in many countries across the region.

The report, “The Digital Evolution of the Middle East and North Africa: How Digital Adoption Can Accelerate Growth and Create Jobs,” seeks to explain this digital paradox.

The report provides compelling evidence of the socio-economic aspect arising from the digitization of the economy. For example, the per capita GDP can rise by more than 40%; employment in manufacturing by 7%; The number of tourist arrivals may increase by 70%, thus creating job opportunities in the hospitality sector.
