Oman appoints Salim al-Aufi as New Minister of Energy and Minerals

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik has issued a Royal Decree appointing H.E. Eng Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, as the new Minister of Energy and Minerals.

Al Aufi  was previously the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals since August 18, 2020. Salim Al Aufi has a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University. He joined Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) in the year 1992, and progressed within the organization in different technical and leadership roles, which culminated in him becoming the Oil North Director in 2010.

In a career spanning well over 20 years, he held different local and international positions, including PDO’s Head of Corporate Planning, Chief Petroleum Engineering and Operation Manager .

In May 2012, the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said appointed Salim as the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation and in December 2013, Salim was appointed as the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Oil and Gas in Oman.
