Muscat: The Shura Council, during its session today, has approved the report of the Youth and Human Resources Committee on the expressed desire to raise the wages of Omanis working in the private sector.
The committee has adopted this desire, as it will contribute to increasing per capita income, thus increasing purchasing power and revitalising the money cycle in the local market.
This is in addition to a number of justifications, the most important of which is the keenness to raise the standard of living for a large segment of workers in the private sector, and the approach of some countries to adopt a mechanism to determine the minimum wage – which takes place automatically every year – according to inflation indicators and their purchasing power, in addition to the noticeable increase in the inflation rate (consumer prices) during the period from 2021 to July 2022.
The council stated that the decision aims to enhance the sector’s contribution to per capita income.
This came during the Shura Council meeting today, Tuesday, its sixteenth regular session for the fourth annual session (2022/2023) of the ninth period (2019-2023). The meeting was headed by His Excellency Khalid bin Hilal Al-Ma’awali, Chairman of the Council, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Nadabi, Secretary General of the Council, and their excellencies the board members.
