Oman bans Butylphenyl methylpropional in cosmetics, personal care products

Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion confirmed the ban on the import of cosmetics and personal care products that contain “Butylphenyl methylpropional” starting from the date of publishing this announcement.

The Ministry said in a statement that the ban stems from its keenness to provide safe and sound products in the local market, and based on the start of implementing the ban on the substance “Butylphenyl methylpropional in the European System for Cosmetics and Personal Care Products (EC NO. 1223). /2009), where this article is considered a supplementary reference in the Gulf Technical Regulations (Cosmetics – Safety Requirements in Cosmetics and Personal Care Products GSO 1943:2021 and binding on Ministerial Resolution No. 199/2021

The Butylphenyl methylpropional, also known as lily or lily aldehyde, is an industrial aromatic substance that has been banned in cosmetics (EU and UK) as it is likely to cause allergic reactions that irritate the skin.
