Food Delivery Bikes Prohibited on Main Roads in Oman

Muscat:  The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology issued Ministerial Circular No. (9/2026) regarding the regulation of food delivery motorcycles on roads in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Ministry stated that the circular comes within the efforts of the Labour Market Regulation Committee in the Logistics Sector to enhance traffic safety and protect food delivery motorcycle drivers and road users.

The circular emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and laws governing motorcycle movement.

According to the circular, food delivery motorcycles are prohibited from operating on main roads in accordance with Article (39) of the Executive Regulations of the Traffic Law issued by the Royal Oman Police, due to the risks posed by high vehicle speeds, which may result in serious traffic accidents.

The Ministry stressed that food delivery motorcycle drivers must use secondary roads and roads designated for motorcycle traffic, while complying with all approved traffic safety requirements and conditions.

The Ministry also called on relevant authorities and owners of establishments and companies operating in the food delivery sector to educate drivers and ensure their compliance with the approved regulations and procedures to preserve public safety.

The Ministry expressed its appreciation for the cooperation and commitment of all parties to the contents of the circular, affirming its aspiration to achieve a safer traffic environment for all road users.
