260 Students Take Part in PIRLS 2026 Reading Study in Al Buraimi

Al Buraimi:  The Directorate General of Education in Al Buraimi Governorate today began implementing the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS 2026) across 8 schools, with the participation of 260 fourth-grade students.

The study aims to assess reading comprehension levels among students in line with international standards. Conducted every five years, it seeks to identify strengths and areas for improvement in reading skills and support the development of curricula and teaching methods.

The assessment includes student tests in addition to questionnaires for administrative and teaching staff.

Preparations for PIRLS 2026 began at the start of the 2024/2025 academic year, including training programmes and coordination with participating schools.

Badriya bint Rashid Al Falasi, Head of the Developmental Studies Section at the Department of Educational Evaluation, said that a dedicated team was formed to oversee the implementation of international studies. She added that continuous coordination was maintained with schools, alongside training for teachers and students, including the use of the “Little Thinkers” platform.

She noted that all technical and administrative requirements for the study have been completed to ensure smooth implementation.
