Oman Raises Awareness on Red Palm Weevil and Mesquite Threats”

Barka:  An awareness seminar held in the Wilayat of Barka today highlighted key environmental and agricultural challenges affecting plant resources, with a focus on strengthening community participation in addressing pests and invasive species.

The seminar was organised by the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in South Al Batinah Governorate.

It reviewed the national campaign to remove mesquite trees and the integrated management programme to combat the red palm weevil.

The event featured specialised working papers, educational visual presentations and an accompanying exhibition showcasing methods of prevention and control.

At the conclusion of the seminar, Sayyid Tariq bin Mahmoud Al Busaidi, Governor of Barka, honoured participants and emphasised the importance of cooperation between institutions and the community to preserve natural resources and support agricultural sustainability.

The seminar forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources to raise awareness and support national initiatives aimed at protecting the environment.
