Oman Broadband Governorates Marathon kick off in Nizwa

Nizwa: The Oman broadband Governorates Marathon was launched in its first edition in the Wiliyat of Nizwa in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah, with the participation of nearly 1,000 male and female competitors from the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, citizens and residents.

This marathon is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in cooperation with the Omani Athletics Association and the SABCO Sports Company, and is officially sponsored by the Omani Broadband Company and in partnership with the Qatari Aspire Zone Foundation.

In the 1.5 km race for children from 7 to 12 years old, Al-Baraa bin Al-Abd Al-Abri won the first place, and Issa bin Musa Al-Saqri won in the 6-kilometer category for the age group 13 years and above, and Ahmed bin Ali Al-Amri won the first place in the 18-year category. For both sexes, with a distance of 10 km, Kira Blackstock from Ireland won first place in the 10 km category for women from 18 years and over.

Ali bin Sulaiman Al-Ajmi, General Manager of the SABCO Sports Company, the organizer of the race, said: We are happy today with the launch of the first edition of the Omani Marathon for the broadband of the governorates in the state of Nizwa, as the number of participants exceeded expectations by nearly 1,000 participants from all segments of society, and this event is considered as the beginning of a series of upcoming races in the governorates of the Sultanate. Through it, we look forward to spreading the culture of sports and physical activity and increasing their number in the Sultanate of Oman.

Al-Ajmi added that the race aims to find a sporting event to become a high-quality and sustainable community icon, in addition to activating the optimal use of sports facilities and facilities, and enhancing constructive cooperation between the ministry, government and private institutions, and media institutions, based on the values ​​of integration and effective partnership, and promoting and encouraging sports tourism in the country.

The marathon race was also accompanied by the activities of the recreational village, with entertainment and promotional activities for the public, activities for medium and small enterprises, popular games and sports, and the participation of folk and musical teams.

It is worth noting that the Omani Marathon for Broadband for the Governorates was launched in its first edition in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, with its second stop being in Al Mudhaibi on the 18th of February in the Al Sharqiyah North Governorate and in Sohar, North Al Batinah, on the 25th of the same month.
