Muscat: The Oman Camel Racing Federation has revealed the schedule for camel races for the 2024/2025 season, which will start on the fourth of next month with the participation of camel owners from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
The Camel Federation approved the holding of the 22nd annual festival for local camel races for the 2024/2025 season, which includes 12 public races, 6 of which will be held in Al-Fulaij field in the Wilayat of Barka in the South Al Batinah Governorate, and 6 in Al-Bashir field in the Wilayat of Adam in the Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, at the same time, to provide an opportunity for camel owners and trainers from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to participate in these two races.
The first race will start from the 4th to the 6th of next month, in addition to other races for milking and Al-Ardha, a beauty contest, and the annual festival of the Omani Camel Racing Federation.
Sheikh Saeed bin Saud Al Ghafili, Chairman of the Omani Camel Racing Federation, said in a statement: “Camel racing represents an Omani heritage that is passed down from generation to generation and enjoys the interest and great support of all segments of society. Camel owners and trainers compete to participate in it and win the various prizes allocated for it, in addition to the economic return it represents for camel breeders through the buying and selling movement that takes place from the beginning of the season until its end.”
He added: “There are other segments of society for whom camel racing represents various benefits. Through field follow-up and meetings with camel owners and trainers, we have seen an increasing annual turnout for the sport of our fathers and grandfathers, especially among the youth, who have found financial and moral support from the relevant authorities and are providing the best Omani breeds to participate in camel racing inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.”
Al-Ghafeeli pointed out that the Federation will organize, in community partnership with the private sector, 6 other races in cooperation with Occidental Oman and Shell Oman in the governorates of Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah.
