Oman celebrates Environment Day today

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Environment Agency, will celebrate the Omani Environment Day today, which falls on January 8 annually. private, civil society organizations, citizens and residents.

Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority, said: “The Sultanate of Oman has got many environmental achievements as a result of the programmes and initiatives that the Environment Authority has worked on, relying on continuous planning and development with methodologies that enhance the quality of environmental work and ensure its sustainability.”

Furthermore, he stated that the authority has worked on various projects embodied for environmental protection, nature conservation and air quality, in the field of reuse and recycling, as well as using clean green energy. This is in addition to carbon management projects and reducing the risks of climate change and global warming, leading to zero carbon neutrality by 2050, according to the national plan that was launched and adopted by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

He also said that governance, legislation and digital transformation, in addition to developing research and innovation and promoting environmental culture, directly contributed to strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s position globally, and was able to raise the environmental performance.

Additionally, he pointed out that Oman finally recorded reassuring numbers that reflect the efforts made at the national level, as it ranked first in the Gulf and fourth in the Arab world in achieving the sustainable development goals, and that it was not rated low in any of the sustainable development goals, but rather maintained its performance. Oman is also on the track to achieve other goals.

The Environment Agency will hold a press conference on Sunday to coincide with the celebration of the Oman’s Environment Day, during which it will review the environmental projects undertaken in the past and the most prominent environmental achievements, projects and initiatives based on numbers and the percentage of achievement, as well as the environmental performance index of the Sultanate of Oman.
