Oman celebrates International Day for the Fight Against IUU Fishing

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, participates in the celebration of the International Day to Combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing, which falls on June 5 of each year.

The Sultanate of Oman is the first country in the Near East and North Africa region to join the Agreement on Measures Used by Port States to Prevent Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing. The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources has worked to issue many important legislations, laws and tools that it adopts in its plans and policies to protect fish resources, organize them and preserve them to ensure their sustainability and proper exploitation to be renewable wealth.

Fisheries control is among the means taken by the Ministry to reach these levels of commitment and ensure the safety and sustainability of fish resources. It also pays full attention to fisheries control with the aim of ensuring that there are no abuses or violations in the economic waters of the Sultanate of Oman.
