Oman celebrates International Day of Older Persons

Muscat: The number of official and civil institutions in the Sultanate of Oman celebrate the International Day of Older Persons, which comes every year on 1st of October.

Under the slogan “their voice is warmth and their councils are reassuring,” the Ministry of Social Development pointed to the importance of this day, which relates to the elderly in the Sultanate of Oman. The government of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik  has devoted all efforts and possibilities to stand by this group, which forms the basis of an extension of the Omani family cohesive in its customs and traditions.

The celebration comes as the United Nations celebrates this day by encouraging countries to draw attention to negative stereotypes and misconceptions about aging and the challenges posed, as well as enabling older people to realize their potential.

This year, the United Nations has created a comprehensive content under the title “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World,” and this theme will be celebrated by NGO committees on aging in a number of countries around the world.
