Oman celebrates World Bee Day

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, along with the world, celebrated the World Bee Day, which falls on May 20 of each year to highlight its contribution to sustainable development and the threats it faces.

Bee is an important living organism that plays a key role in human life, as it is responsible for pollinating plants and improving the production of farm crops.

It is also an important source of honey and its other products, and contributes to preserving biological diversity and preserving the natural environment.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is interested in local breeds of honey bees in the Sultanate of Oman through programmes and projects implemented by the ministry in addition to research and scientific studies such as studying the characteristics and productivity of Omani bees.

The Directorate General of Marketing, Agricultural and Fisheries Investment works to raise the production of honey and bee products and. Such projects have many positive results in terms of increasing production, raising quality, providing jobs for Omani youth.
