

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and in cooperation with sector partners, celebrates the anniversary of World Post Day.
The celebration comes under the slogan (Post Serves Our Planet) with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of the role of the postal sector for individuals and the business sector in daily life, introducing people to the post’s contribution to social and economic development, and encouraging the implementation of various activities to raise awareness among people and the media about its role and activities.
The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Universal Postal Union for the current period (2022-2025). The postal sector employs more than 5 million people in the world, and their ultimate goal is to ensure the delivery of hundreds of billions of postal items and items annually. In the Sultanate of Oman, there are 42 companies licensed to provide postal services, and there are about 3,680 employees working in the postal sector, which is a diverse and attractive sector that is increasingly contributing to economic and social development by creating new and diverse job opportunities and the entry of new investors into the sector.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology supervises the postal sector by setting policies and strategies and enacting laws and legislations to make the investment environment in the sector stimulating, transparent and effective governance.
The ministry seeks to promote and develop the postal sector to keep pace with the requirements of economic and social development, meet its needs, and support electronic commerce.
The role of governments, institutions and bodies related to the postal sector comes in utilizing their resources and capabilities to raise awareness of everyone’s responsibility in facing climate change and taking responsibility for taking appropriate and tangible measures to reduce carbon emissions in addition to improving and mitigating climate severity, adaptation and flexibility within the postal sector, and the Sultanate of Oman is one of the most Countries deal to reduce carbon emissions, pay attention to the environment and its components, and use clean energy.
It is worth noting that World Post Day falls on the 9th of October every year and is celebrated to commemorate the founding of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Bern.
