Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, celebrated the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which falls on May 17 of each year, under the slogan “Empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technology”; With the aim of highlighting the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman to provide telecommunications services to ensure the implementation of the objectives stipulated in the National Program for the Digital Economy, in a way that guarantees the achievement of the future vision “Oman 2040”.
The celebration included a workshop on “The Future of Communications in Light of Technological Changes” presented in cooperation with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat and Infospark Digital Solutions Company. It included 3 working papers; The first dealt with the telecommunications sector and its contributions to the provision of communication services in rural areas, and the second working paper was on (artificial intelligence and renewable technologies such as (Chat GPT): its history, uses, benefits, challenges and risks), while the third paper touched on the national policy for the space sector and the Sultanate’s direction During the coming years, in addition to the investment projects open to the global private sector.
