Oman chairs 156th session of GCC Ministerial Council

Riyadh: The Sultanate of Oman today chaired the 156th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, which was held at the GCC Secretariat General in Riyadh.

Oman’s delegation was led by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister.

The meeting focused on the path of implementing decisions of the GCC Supreme Council, aiming at enhancing the joint Gulf action.

On the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of foundation of the GCC, which launched a blessed march of achievements that made the GCC a lofty edifice, Sayyid Badr, Chairman of the current session of the 156th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, said that the GCC accomplishments call for sustained efforts to preserve the gains.

This success, Sayyid Badr added, encourages the GCC to look forward for the realization of more milestones, notably in the areas of citizenship, the Customs Union and the Gulf Common Market. Such an approach would secure the durability of the GCC march of development and prosperity, he explained.

Sayyid Badr stressed that the approach of peace and cooperation is the only way, the safest and most ideal model for the region and the world at large.

In this context, Sayyid Badr commended the promising developments in the region which, he said, usher in a new era of welfare for all.

Speaking about the environmental and climatic challenges currently posed to the world, Sayyid Badr said that GCC member states have already charted a balanced approach through gradual transition (to clean energy) to reduce harmful carbon emissions. This, he said, requires more cooperation and partnership among all sectors and more concerted action at the national, regional and international levels.

This appraoch also mandates support for innovation, capacity building and espousal of the best practices and experiences, to ensure a more sustainable and stable future, so that the member states could realize their national visions and so that they could consolidate their blessed renaissance in all walks of life, through knowledge and sciences. -ONA
