Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, today chaired the 9th meeting of the Committee of GCC social development ministries’ undersecretaries.

The meeting, held via videoconferencing, reviewed the decision of the GCC Supreme Council on the unified guiding bylaw (system) for empowerment of people with disabilities.

The meeting also studied the unified guiding bylaw on volunteer action and the GCC Supreme Council’s decision on the protection of moral, religious and family values in Gulf societies. Later, the undersecretaries discussed GCC Supreme Council’s decisions on the functions of the GCC charitable action committee.

They also elaborated on the GCC joint strategy on women’s affairs. The meeting explored measures to generalise privileges granted to people with disabilities in GCC states so that the advantages could benefit all citizens in member states.

It also looked into the proposal of the State of Kuwait on allocating an award for talented and outstanding people with disabilities in GCC states. The meeting exchanged views about developing criteria for honouring pioneering social action projects and personalities. Ends/Bishara/AH
