Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Public Prosecution, chaired the 15th meeting of GCC attorneys general at the Al-Bustan Palace Hotel in Muscat today.
Attorney General Nasr Khamis Al Sowa’ee, who chaired the meeting, said that rapid developments taking place in the world today, notably new crime scenarios, called for a unified stance to address their impacts. He stressed the need to deal firmly with all attempts that might constitute a violation of public order, both domestically and at a regional level.
The meeting discussed a set of topics, including the draft rules for child protection during the investigation phase, draft rules for immediate payment in crimes of a financial nature and financial penalties and a bill on the ethics of artificial intelligence in the field of public prosecutions.
The conferees considered holding interactive seminars to exchange knowledge about the GCC legislation and laws and reviewed the experiences of public prosecution departments in member states.
The Public Prosecution in Oman outlined the “Burhan” system for remote investigation. The United Arab Emirates briefed the gathering about its experience in digitizing criminal legislation, while Saudi Arabia outlined cases of financial fraud crimes. The Public Prosecution department in Qatar also showcased its experience in establishing a public prosecution office during World Cup 2022.
Outstanding members of public prosecution departments in GCC states were felicitated. They were awarded the Hamid Al Othman Prize. – ONA
