MTCIT Launches the Oman Competition for Al-Enhanced Drones (Phase Two) within the National Initiative for Qualifying Digital Competencies
Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with Sultan Qaboos University and with the support of the Omani Qatari Telecommunications Company (Ooredoo Oman), announces the opening of registration for the fifth and sixth batches of the Oman Competition program for Al-Enhanced drones.
The program includes workshops and training courses to establish and refine the skills of the participants. The program also includes an annual competition for drones equipped with artificial intelligence systems.
The program targets students and graduates of universities and colleges who are looking to acquire new technical skills that enable them to actively participate in the production of technical solutions and thus contribute to building an economic market and creating jobs in the field of drones.
The program also aims to prepare and support the winning participants to compete in regional and international competitions.
Participants will receive graduation certificates from the program and the winners will be honored with valuable prizes
The training program combines theory and practice with a greater emphasis on practical aspects. The accepted students will be divided into six batches, each batch consisting of 20 participants. Each batch will undergo a training program consisting of four training modules:
• Unit 1: Learn about the components of drones, their applications, flight laws, operating ethics and safety procedures, in addition to practical training on how to assemble them and then pilot and test them.
• Unit 2: Drones settings and practical training on manual control and remote flying.
• Management of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Unit 3: Self-control mechanism for drones and practical training on applications that depend on self-control.
• Unit 4: Artificial Intelligence tools and practical training on applications of AI-enhanced drones.
The best performing participants will also qualify for the annual competition that will be held in February 2024 in the Great Hall of Sultan Qaboos University, which contains two tracks:
• Manual control path
• AI-enhanced self-control path
The program aims to achieve a set of objectives, most notably:
• Enhancing community awareness of drones and their multiple uses and benefits.
• Building and refining the participants’ skills in the field of drones in terms of how to build, control and pilot them.
• Building competencies in the field of drone programming and including them with the requirements of artificial intelligence systems.
• Enabling Omani youth to actively participate in the production of technical solutions.
• Enabling Omani youth to build an economic market and create jobs in the field of drones.
• Qualifying participants to compete in regional and international competitions.
Registration terms:
• The candidate must be of Omani nationality
• The candidate must be either a university student (Bachelor’s degree) or a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree.
• The candidate must have knowledge of programming, and knowledge of Python language is preferred.
• The candidate must be familiar with the English language to enable him to understand the content and pass the exams.
• The participant must be committed to completing the program within the specified period, and in the event of unjustified withdrawal, the participant will be excluded from any future programs offered by the Makeen Initiative or Sultan Qaboos University.
• It is preferable for the candidate to have prior experience with drones.
• It is preferable for the candidate to have technical skills such as design, installation, welding and fault repair.
Program Duration: Two weeks for each batch, from 4 am to 7 pm
