Oman Conducts First Surgery Using Internal Lymphatic Duct Closure Technique

SQU Hospital Achieves Medical Milestone with Advanced Ear Surgery

Muscat:  The ear surgery team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital at the University Medical City has successfully performed the first surgical procedure in the Sultanate of Oman using the internal lymphatic duct closure technique to treat Meniere’s disease.

The operation was led by Dr. Nasser bin Mohammed Al-Tamami, Consultant Surgeon at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, within an integrated medical system supported by specialised expertise and advanced medical technologies.

The procedure represents a new step in providing advanced treatment options for patients whose conditions do not respond to conventional therapies, contributing to improving quality of life and reducing the need for treatment abroad.

Meniere’s disease is a disorder affecting the inner ear and is characterised by recurring episodes of vertigo, hearing loss accompanied by tinnitus and a sensation of pressure inside the ear. Advanced cases may lead to gradual or complete hearing loss.

The achievement reflects ongoing efforts to improve the quality of specialised healthcare services and strengthen integration between accurate diagnosis and advanced treatment methods.

It also supports the educational and research environment aimed at developing national medical competencies and introducing advanced medical knowledge and technologies.

The success highlights the healthcare sector’s ability to adopt and implement modern medical techniques in specialised fields, further enhancing the efficiency of healthcare services in the Sultanate of Oman.

The University Medical City said that the achievement forms part of its efforts to develop an integrated healthcare model based on clinical excellence, capacity building and medical innovation to improve community health and healthcare services.
