Oman’s CPA clarifies about raising the price of fish and applying VAT

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority issued a statement confirming its follow-up to what is being circulated on social media platforms about a company specialized in selling fish exploiting and defrauding the consumer by raising the price and applying value-added tax on fish.

The authority stated that it had investigated and researched the matter and followed up the company, and it was found that there are two prices for the same type of fish, as it is sold by the grain and by the kilo after cleaning.

It was also confirmed that the company does not impose tax, and does not charge to take any additional amounts from the consumer other than the price advertised in the store.

The authority also confirmed its continuous follow-up on commodity prices in order to protect consumer rights and protect them from price manipulation, and to ensure the stability of markets, and called on everyone to cooperate with it by reporting any issues through its official channels to take appropriate measures.
