Oman declares Eid Al Adha 2023

Muscat: The sighting of the crescent of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah for the year 1444 AH has been confirmed, and accordingly, Wednesday, corresponding to June 28, will be the first day of Eid al-Adha.

In a statement Oman News Agency said: “The first day of Eid Al Adha (10 Dhul Hijjah 1444 AH) will be on Wednesday, 28 June 2023, confirms the Main Committee for Moon Sighting.”

Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) also said: “The main committee for moon sighting met on the evening of Sunday, the 29th of Dhul-Qa’dah 1444 AH (18th June 2023).

The committee was chaired by H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Said bin Khalfan Al Mamari Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. and the following as members:

His Eminence Shaikh Ahmad bin Hamad bin Sulaiman Al Khalili – Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman.

H.E. Eng. Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al Busaidi – Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior.

H.E. Dr. Wail bin Saif bin Salim Al Harrasi – Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.

And the Esteemed Judges:

Shaikh Mohamed bin Salim bin Mohamed Al Akhzami  – Supreme Court Judge

Shaikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Sattar bin Ahmad Al Kamali – Supreme Court Judge

Shaikh Mohamad bin Salim bin Dahman Al Nahdi – Supreme Court Judge.

The committee received evidence of the sighting of the crescent and, after reviewing the evidence, approved the sighting of the crescent for the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH. Thereforce, tomorrow, i.e., Monday (19th June 2023), will mark the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 AH, and Wednesday the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah 1444 (28th June 2023) will mark the beginning of the Blessed Eid Al Adha.

On this blessed occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs is pleased to extend its sincere congratulations and best wishes to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq,

May the Almighty Allah protect Him and grant Him good health. The Ministry also prays for Oman’s prosperity and all the Muslims, alike, asking the Almighty to bless this Holy month.
