Muscat: A new report from the San Francisco-based American Market Watch confirmed that the e-commerce market in the Sultanate of Oman is growing rapidly, due to the increase in consumption and the rise in smartphone sales in the region.
The report, which was published by the Corporation on its website, said that the application of the implementation of 4G and 5G technologies for the purpose of communication increases customers’ exposure to online shopping, and therefore it is expected that technological awareness among customers will have a significant impact on market growth.
The report pointed out that Oman Telecommunications Company plans to establish 2,226 sites for the fifth generation by 2024, which will increase the rate of Internet consumption in the Sultanate.
The report said, government initiatives to support digital transformation in the Sultanate enhance the growth of the e-commerce market. He considered that the main obstacle to the growth of this market is the preference of most consumers to buy directly from retail stores, due to the high security of payments in offline payments.
