National Competitiveness Committee Discusses International Performance Indicators
Muscat; The National Competitiveness Committee held its first periodic meeting of the year today under the chairmanship of His Excellency Dr. Khamis bin Saif Al Jabri, Minister of Economy, with the participation of Their Excellencies, Highnesses, and representatives of the private sector who are members of the committee.
The meeting reviewed the latest developments related to international indicators monitored by the National Competitiveness Office in coordination with relevant entities.
During the meeting, the office highlighted the Sultanate of Oman’s progress in several international indicators, including advancing five positions in the Global Innovation Index to rank 69th globally among 139 countries.
The meeting also reviewed Oman’s achievement of the Oman Vision 2040 target in the Economic Freedom Index by ranking among the top 40 countries globally, securing 39th place out of 176 countries included in the report.
The committee discussed the main challenges facing national teams and explored mechanisms to address them in order to strengthen coordination among relevant entities and support the Sultanate of Oman’s progress in international reports and indicators.
The meeting also reviewed updates on the work of four national teams: the National Team for Improving the Environmental Performance Index, the National Team for Improving the Business Readiness and Economic Freedom Indices, the National Team for Improving the Network Readiness Index, and the National Team for Improving the Global Innovation Index.
The National Competitiveness Committee works to support the efforts of the National Competitiveness Office and follow up on its programmes and initiatives aimed at raising the competitiveness of the Sultanate of Oman and improving its performance in international indicators, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and efforts to strengthen Oman’s global standing.
