Oman, FAO Sign agreement to Implement Strategic Partnership Program

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the United Nations, represented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, signed an agreement to implement the strategic partnership program under the South-South and triangular cooperation approach.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Sultanate by His Excellency Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and on behalf of the organization, His Excellency Qu Denyo, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations “FAO”, at the Ministry’s general office in Muscat, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

This agreement comes within the framework of joint cooperation and the desire of the two parties to further enhance their cooperation for a more efficient, effective and innovative partnership, and in support of activities that are consistent with the organization’s mission and the Sultanate’s priorities for sustainable development, thus contributing to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This agreement aims to enhance strategic cooperation between the government of the Sultanate of Oman and the organization to set general terms and conditions with regard to the voluntary contributions of the government to the organization, in addition to the contributions of the organization in providing technical and scientific expertise, including the method of “South-South and triangular cooperation”.

The agreement supports the achievement of sustainable development of agriculture in the Sultanate of Oman, and contributes to the efforts made by the organization to assist member states in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The agreement also aims to make available projects and activities funded and supported under this agreement to implement the development program in the Sultanate of Oman “Oman Vision 2040”, and be consistent with the organization’s country programming framework in the Sultanate of Oman (2018-2022).

The agreement will also contribute to the implementation of the Organization’s Strategic Framework (2022-2031), particularly as articulated in the twenty priority areas, including South-South and triangular cooperation, in addition to regional and global priorities.

The agreement also brings together comprehensive and integrated cooperation in many areas of cooperation in many matters and procedures such as financial regulations, implementation and development of activities and programmes, preparation and follow-up of sustainable strategies and exchange of technical and scientific expertise.
