Muscat: Oman Flour Mills Company is keen on an annual basis to support Omani farmers by purchasing varieties of Omani wheat, as part of the program to support the purchase of wheat, with the aim of encouraging them to expand its cultivation as an important strategic crop, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
The company confirmed that it has so far received nearly 5 thousand tons of Omani wheat from farmers, as part of its efforts to enhance food security efforts, support farmers and enable them to enter the food products market.
Haitham bin Muhammad Al Fannah, CEO of the Omani Flour Mills Company, said: The company appreciates the high interest given by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the directions of the government and private investments aimed at strengthening the food security system in the Sultanate of Oman, and what it constitutes this interest is a great motivation for all parties and investors to double investment in the areas of food in order to achieve self-sufficiency and export the surplus abroad.
In a statement to Oman News Agency, he added that the company will continue with its plans to purchase wheat products from farmers during the coming years, develop it and put it as a product in the local and regional markets, noting that Omani wheat is acceptable to consumers due to its high quality. The Oman Mills Company is working to buy Omani wheat from farmers in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. It should be noted that the area of land cultivated with wheat in some governorates in the Sultanate of Oman amounted to 2,500 feddans.
