Oman Grants Visa Exemption to Filipino Tourists Starting Next Year
Muscat: A spokesperson for the Consular Department at the Foreign Ministry affirmed that the Republic of the Philippines will be added to Oman’s list of countries exempt from tourist visa requirements starting next year. The step reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to strengthening international relations and diversifying economic partnerships.
With this addition, the number of countries covered by the visa exemption rises to 105 countries, further enhancing Oman’s position as an open and attractive global destination.
According to informed diplomatic sources, the decision comes within the context of the evolving relations between Muscat and Manila, with both sides seeking to develop the traditionally labour-focused bilateral relationship into a broader partnership encompassing investment, industry, and high-value tourism.
The sources noted that concerns related to the visa exemption remain limited due to the stringent pre-departure requirements imposed by the Philippines on its citizens, including proof of medical fitness, financial solvency, valid flight tickets, hotel reservations, and other measures ensuring compliance with host-country regulations. Oman values these procedures and applies similar standards to visitors, residents, and foreign workers.
The Oman Visa and Medical Check-up Center in Manila, inaugurated last July in the presence of Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, serves as an integrated facility that facilitates and regulates work visa procedures in accordance with approved employment contracts under the Omani Labour Law. The center provides biometric registration, medical examinations, document attestation, contract verification, and advisory services for workers and employers.
Diplomatic sources added that this exemption reflects the mutual trust between the two countries. They also highlighted Oman’s successful efforts in securing the release of detained Filipino nationals in Yemen, a step that left a positive impact on the Philippine public.
Cooperation momentum has also been reinforced through the Cebu Investment Forum, organized by Oman in Manila mid-year. The second edition of the forum will be held in Muscat next February, further supporting commercial, economic, and tourism exchanges between the two countries.
This decision contributes to expanding economic partnerships with friendly nations and opens new avenues for sustainable cooperation. Diplomatic experts view the step as part of Oman’s strategic vision to enhance its international presence, support mutual economic interests, and stimulate tourism flows.
