Ministry of Finance Showcases Oman’s Budget Reform Experience in Dubai

Dubai: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Finance, participated today in the 10th Arab Public Finance Forum and the World Governments Summit, currently being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The forum discussed a number of key issues, including Arab economic prospects, ways to enhance fiscal resilience in the face of economic shocks, restructuring public spending policies, boosting development financing, accelerating digital transformation, and the applications of artificial intelligence in public finance.

During a panel discussion titled “Restructuring Spending Policies and Enhancing Development Finance,” Mahmoud Abdullah Al Aouini, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the Sultanate of Oman’s experience in developing the methodology for preparing the state general budget and strengthening medium-term fiscal planning.

He explained that these efforts contribute to improving the efficiency of public spending, enhancing fiscal stability, and strengthening the ability to manage economic variables, while ensuring the quality and continuity of basic services and supporting national socio-economic development objectives.

Al Aouini is also scheduled to participate in a closed discussion session titled “Artificial Intelligence and National Readiness” as part of the activities of the World Governments Summit, which is set to officially open tomorrow.

The Arab Public Finance Forum is held annually in cooperation with the Arab Monetary Fund and the International Monetary Fund, with the aim of examining mechanisms for financing sustainable development and reviewing the role of regional and international financial institutions in supporting Arab countries in achieving their economic goals.

The forum further addresses opportunities and challenges related to the adoption of modern financial technologies, with a focus on accelerating digital transformation within the financial sector.
