8th Omani Stroke Conference Begins, Gathering 150 Experts

Muscat: The 8th Annual Omani Stroke Conference, organized by the Oman Stroke Association in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, commenced today in Muscat and will run until 6 December.

The conference brings together 150 experts, researchers, academics and specialists from Oman and abroad, including 32 speakers who will present working papers and research highlighting the latest scientific advances in the field of stroke.

Held under the patronage of Eng. Ibrahim bin Saeed Al Kharousi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Heritage, the conference aims to raise public awareness about stroke, its causes and prevention methods. It also reviews recent developments in diagnosis and treatment, as well as medical options that help mitigate the health and social impacts of stroke.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is supporting the event as the strategic partner, in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s efforts to strengthen its position as a leading destination for major medical and scientific conferences and to advance the goals of Oman Vision 2040, particularly in economic diversification and tourism development.

Dr. Amal bint Mohammed Al Hashmi, President and Founder of the Oman Stroke Association, said that this year’s edition hosts distinguished speakers from renowned global universities including Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Calgary, alongside experts from regional and international institutions and from within Oman. She affirmed that the conference serves as a key scientific platform for exchanging expertise and showcasing the latest advancements in neurology.

Khalid bin Walid Al Zadjali, Director of the Oman Convention Bureau at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, noted that hosting the summit in Muscat reflects global confidence in Oman’s capabilities and readiness to hold major international events, supported by advanced infrastructure and well-established organizational competence.

The scientific program includes specialized sessions, lectures and workshops discussing cutting-edge research and innovative treatment methods, including the use of robotics, artificial intelligence and advanced therapeutic approaches—offering a comprehensive overview of global efforts to combat stroke.

The opening ceremony also witnessed the signing of several agreements with regional and international organizations to launch the Asian–African Stroke Summit, which will be hosted periodically by Oman. The summit aims to promote cooperation in education, training and scientific research, and to organize joint activities that contribute to developing the skills of healthcare professionals and improving treatment services.

This year’s conference also features a dedicated hall and scientific track for allied health professionals, reaffirming the association’s commitment to integrating various medical disciplines and providing a unified platform for skill development and knowledge exchange—ultimately enhancing the quality of stroke care services in Oman.
