Oman Hosts meeting of GCC Committee responsible to follow up the implementation of the IHR

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the GCC Secretariat General, is hosting the 11th meeting of the GCC Committee Responsible for Following-up the Implementation of the International Health Regulations 2005 (IHR).

The opening session of the three-day meeting was chaired by Dr. Saif Salim Al Abri, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, Director General of Disease Surveillance and Control.

Al Abri lauded the joint GCC efforts by forming various implementation follow-up committees. He also called upon fostering joint action among GCC countries and exchanging expertise.

Moreover, the Committee is responsible to follow up the implementation of the IHR by conducting scheduled field visits to airports and entry points at GCC countries in coordination with the authorities concerned in each country. It is also responsible for performing assessment of the requirements of health regulations related to prevention, early warning, and public health emergency response as per the World Health Organization (WHO) checklist.

At the end of the meetings, the committee will draft its recommendations which will be submitted to the GCC Ministers of Health. – ONA
