OWWSC inaugurates RO 150m Sohar-Dhahirah water supply project

Ibri: A ceremony was held here today to mark the opening of a project worth more than RO 150 million to supply water from Sohar Desalination Plant to A’Dhahirah Governorate, under the auspices of Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy.

The project includes laying a 230-km water supply pipe from Sohar Desalination Plant in the Governorate of North Al Batinah to the Governorate of A’Dhahirah.

It also includes the installation of 15 storage tanks having a collective capacity of 451,000 cubic metres in the wilayats of Sohar, Ibri and Dhank.

This is in addition to setting up 4 pumping stations in the wilayats of Sohar, Ibri and Dhank, having a maximum capacity of 144,000 cubic metres per day.

A parallel water transfer pipeline will be extended from the Wilayat of Sohar to the Governorate of Al Buraimi.

For the first time in the country, Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company used steel tanks in water transfer projects by applying the best health criteria and standard global systems for water sterilization using sodium hypochloride, which is safe for human beings and nature.

The company took keen interest in securing the management of all operations, including the establishment of control chambers and monitoring the system via the National Command Centre in the Governorate of Muscat.

The company also strives to ensure the sustainability of water supply in A’Dhahirah governorate’s wilayats that depend mainly on ground water in meeting their needs for water in drinking and development purposes. The approach seeks to safeguard water supply for future generations as part of Oman’s policy of water security.
