Oman Inscribes Arabic calligraphy on Unesco’s intangible cultural Heritage List

Muscat (ONA) : Represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Sultanate of Oman succeeded in registering Arabic Calligraphy in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Culture Heritage of Humanity.

The inscription was made through the presentation of a join Arabic file during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage, Currently convened in Paris until 18 Dec 2021.

The file was submitted to UNESCO under the auspices of the Arab League’s Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). Sixteen Arab states contributed to the compilation of the file, which was prepared in 2019 and submitted in early 2020 after it met all criteria for inscription on UNESCO’s global list.
