Oman International Drift Championship 2024 kicks off

First round of Oman International Drifting championship (OIDC) starts today

Muscat: The sixth edition of the Oman International Drift Championship will start tomorrow at the “Muscat Arena Circuit” in the Airport Heights area, which the Oman Automobile Association announced today during the press conference with the participation of 48 racers from 17 countries, and will continue until the 23rd of this month.

Fahmi bin Nasser Al Busaidi, race director of the Oman International Drift Championship, said: The Oman International Drift Championship is one of the strongest championships in the world in the sport of drifting, as this year’s edition witnesses the participation of 48 contestants from the most prominent drift drivers around the world, representing 17 countries, including the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates. United States, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Lithuania, Latvia, Ireland, El Salvador, Russia, Finland, India, Sweden.

He added that the tournament is held in three categories: local, Middle Eastern, and international. The number of local participants reached 9, while the number of participants from the Middle East reached 13, while the number of international participants reached 28.

He stated that the tournament system will be to collect points through three rounds, with the first round starting on February 8 and 9, while the second round will start on February 15 and 16, while the tournament will conclude with the third and final round on February 22 and 23.

He pointed out in his speech during the press conference that the arbitration in the championship is managed by a committee of international referees who are recognized for their competence and have managed many international drifting championships.

The committee is headed by the Irish referee Keren Hines, the Yemeni Wadah Aqba, the Dutchman Fernan Zoanveld, and the Omani Saud Al Rawahi.

It is worth noting that the last edition of the tournament focused on safety procedures and preparing the circuit in all respects for the contestants, and witnessed the attendance of more than 25,000 Omanis and residents amid an atmosphere of excitement and suspense.
