Omani Journalists Association celebrates International Podcast Day

Muscat: The Omani Journalists Association, represented by the Media Research and Studies Committee, celebrated the International Podcast Day, which came under the title: (Podcast and its Impact on Public Opinion), which falls on September 30 of each year.

The event – which included two dialogue sessions – was sponsored by Her Highness Sayyida Hujaija bint Jaifer Al Said, in the presence of a number of invitees and participants, at the Omani Journalists Association Theater.

Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Araimi, Chairman of the Oman Journalists Association, said: We meet this evening to celebrate a media outlet that has proven its ability to transcend traditional boundaries and provide distinctive content in line with the interests of diverse local and global audiences, as podcasts have become in recent years a strong and effective platform whose importance is not limited to providing information and entertainment only, but has extended to be an educational and cultural means that contributes to building societies and promoting open democratic dialogue, in addition to maximizing benefits through the diversity of topics it raises from science, arts, politics and economics.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Journalists Association has confirmed the commitment and continuous efforts to support and enhance this vital field in the Sultanate of Oman and strongly believes that podcasting is not just a media outlet, but rather an effective tool that can contribute to enriching journalistic and media content in addition to opening new horizons in the journalistic and media arenas for innovation. We will also work through our initiatives aimed at empowering Omani podcast makers to provide all the necessary resources to achieve their successes by creating an environment that encourages the provision of distinguished content that reflects quality and professionalism, and serves the Omani society in the best possible way.

He stated that the development of modern media has shaped the way we communicate and interact with the world around us as a country that influences its surroundings and is influenced regionally and globally. Podcasting is no longer just a form of modern media, but has become an influential platform that transcends traditional borders and allows us all to reach a global audience in an unprecedented way. It is an expression of modern media democracy, where every individual can have a voice and an idea that must find its way to spread, and every journalist and media professional can make his voice heard and his idea can find its way to spread, benefiting from what technology provides in the open skies.

Dr. Al-Arimi pointed out that the emergence of podcasts began in 2002, and it was only a technological innovation that allowed radio stations to broadcast their programs indirectly, so they could publish podcasts on the Internet and listeners could download them as they pleased, but today it has proven that it is not only a means of information and entertainment, but a powerful tool for education, discussion and building modern societies in our contemporary world, where the pace of life is accelerating and its complexities are increasing, and podcasts have proven to provide us with a wonderful window into diverse worlds, allowing us to listen to experiences, opinions and ideas that we may not hear about in traditional media.
