Oman Establishes Red Crescent to Boost Disaster and Relief Efforts
Muscat: The recent launch of the Oman Red Crescent marks a key step in strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s humanitarian role at both regional and international levels.
The initiative reflects Oman’s continued efforts to provide relief and medical assistance during disasters and crises, while establishing a national humanitarian entity that operates in line with international standards.
Badr Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting CEO of Oman Charitable Organization (OCO), said in a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the Oman Red Crescent will support the development of a more efficient humanitarian response system under a specialized national framework operating within OCO.
He explained that the new entity will enhance coordination among relevant departments, contributing to faster response times and improved quality of services delivered to beneficiaries during emergencies.
Al Zaabi added that the strategic vision of Oman Red Crescent focuses on building a capable humanitarian organization aligned with international best practices. This includes expanding relief and medical programs and strengthening partnerships with local and international organizations.
He noted that the initiative will benefit from the expertise of global humanitarian institutions, helping ensure the swift and effective delivery of aid to affected communities, while reinforcing Oman’s humanitarian presence on the global stage.
Al Zaabi also highlighted Oman’s longstanding experience in humanitarian work, noting that the Oman Charitable Organization has implemented numerous relief programs in affected countries over the years.
The establishment of Oman Red Crescent, he said, builds on this legacy and supports the continued development of the Sultanate’s humanitarian efforts.
