Muscat: The National Heart Center has achieved continuous and remarkable achievements in the fields of cardiac surgery and cardiac care, reflecting the great and qualitative progress witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman in this vital sector to provide high-quality medical care to citizens and residents.

Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahy, Director of the National Cardiac Center, told Oman News Agency: “Since its opening in 2015 until today, the center has performed 4,274 heart surgeries for children and 4,094 surgeries for adults.

It has also treated 154 cases using the extracorporeal oxygenation device (ECMO), and 30,676 cardiac catheterization procedures for arteries.”

He added that the center succeeded in performing 4,310 cardiac catheterization interventions for children and 395 for adults, in addition to implanting 2,206 cardiac devices and 2,080 cardiac catheterization procedures.

He pointed out that the center includes a variety of specialized clinics, including 3D echocardiography clinics, virtual clinics, a visiting physician clinic in the regions, a pregnant heart clinic, a fetal heart clinic, a pre-anesthesia clinic, a pre-cardiac catheterization clinic, a heart clinic for adults and children, a heart surgery clinic for adults and children, a heart failure clinic for adults and children, and a congenital heart defect clinic for adults and children.

He stressed that the role of the center was not limited to providing health care only, but it also achieved distinguished scientific achievements. It obtained first place in the number of researches in the Royal Hospital, and two doctors and a nurse from the center were honored for obtaining first places in their fields. In addition, 310 trainees were trained in various fields of heart care.

He stated that the center has achieved many accomplishments at the international level, and the Sultanate of Oman is the first in the Middle East to successfully close a difficult heart hole (atriovenous septal defect) in 2018. The center also received the gold award for the best project at the level of hospitals in the world during the meeting of the International Hospital Federation (IHF), in addition to the award for the best clinical case from the Gulf Heart Conference 2019, in addition to performing many qualitative and complex operations globally and regionally.

He explained that the National Center for Cardiac Medicine and Surgery plays a major role in spreading knowledge through scientific research. In this regard, 274 scientific research papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals and 93 international lectures have been participated in, with live broadcasts of several surgical operations at international conferences.

He stressed the center’s efforts to enhance its position as a leading destination for advanced cardiac care in the Sultanate of Oman and the region, with its commitment to training medical personnel and providing the latest treatment technologies.

Dr. Najib bin Zahran Al Rawahy, Director of the National Heart Center, pointed out that the center, as it reached its tenth year since its opening, launched a campaign entitled “Heart of the Nation,” which coincides with World Heart Day and seeks to enhance community awareness of the center’s role and review developments in health care for heart patients in the Sultanate of Oman.
