Oman: Over 60,000 teachers return to schools as new academic year begins

Muscat: More than 60,000 teachers will return to schools in the Sultanate of Oman today as the 2023/2024 academic year begins on Tuesday.

All the teaching staff, supervisors, members of the educational and administrative bodies, and support groups will start their work in various schools in preparation for receiving the students.

The number of teachers in government schools this year reached 60,840, with an Omanisation rate of 87.5 percent, distributed over 1,270 schools in the country. The number of administrators and technicians in government schools reached 11,509, of whom 4,587 were males, and 6,922 females with 99.8 percent Omanisation rate.

The number of teachers in private education schools are 284, with an Omanisation rate of (93.5 percent ), and the total number of administrators in private schools are 65, with 85.4 percent Omanisation rate. Within the framework of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology’s keenness to organise school transport activity, the ministry stressed the need for bus drivers to be fully prepared and adhere to security and safety requirements for the transportation of students.

The ministry has asked to register buses on its transportation platform, in addition to adhering to the approved technical specifications and ensuring the provision of safe and comfortable travel for students.
