Oman participates in the meeting of the 37th session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the work of the meeting of the 37th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Conference for the Near East, via video conference, and it will last four days.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was represented at the meeting by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture.

This meeting comes as the first stage within the work of the organization’s conference for the Near East. Which precedes the ministerial meeting scheduled to be held during the period from 4-5 March 2024, and includes member states, representatives of United Nations bodies, specialized agencies and observers, and aims to provide an opportunity for governments to express their views and priorities in the work of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) within its strategic framework. 2022-2031.

The meeting discussed a number of issues and items, the most important of which are accelerating the transformation of food systems in the Near East and North Africa region, empowering women in agricultural systems in the region, ways to combat food loss and waste, in addition to food security expectations at the global and regional levels, and developing a regional action plan to support the expansion of Portfolio of field schools for farmers in the region, enabling inclusive and sustainable rural transformation in the Near East and North Africa.
