Oman participates in 62nd Annual Session of the Asia-Africa Legal Consultative Organization (ALCO) in Thailand

Bangkok: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, is participating in the 62nd session of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), in the Thai capital, Bangkok.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, who stressed in his speech the Sultanate of Oman’s full support for all the efforts made by the organization, its role and enhancing its effectiveness, pointing to the humanitarian conditions experienced by the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip as a result of the brutal Israeli aggression, in complete disregard of the most basic rules of international law, international humanitarian law, and international norms and charters.

His Excellency called on the international community to fulfill its humanitarian duty to stop the bloodshed, starvation and displacement of the Palestinian people, who deserve to look forward to a better future in which security, freedom and human dignity are achieved, and to immediately stop the dangerous escalation witnessed in the occupied Palestinian territories, in order to preserve the lives of civilians, enable them to live on their land in security and peace, and allow them to receive humanitarian aid and obtain food, water, medicine and other basic materials without restrictions or obstacles.

His Excellency stressed the Sultanate of Oman’s firm and supportive position on the Palestinian cause, the necessity of achieving a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in Palestine, supporting the legitimate rights of its people, stopping the escalation, protecting innocent civilians and stopping their bloodshed, and working to implement international humanitarian law and international conventions for the Palestinian people who are being subjected to brutal and unprecedented attacks by the Israeli occupation forces.

The meeting discussed a number of topics, including a report on issues related to the United Nations International Law Commission (ILC), which will discuss at its upcoming (75) meeting the topic of international trade and investment law, the topic of international law in cyberspace, in addition to discussing environmental and sustainable development law.
