Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Information, took part in the 52nd round of Arab Information Ministers Council, held at the headquarters of the Arab League’s (AL) Secretariat General in Cairo today.
The Omani delegation at the meeting was led by Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information.
Ahmed Rasheed Khattabi, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Information and Communication Sector at the Arab League, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of the Arab Media Strategy, executed in harmony with the Arab Media Action Plan, which aims to continue defending the legitimacy of the Palestinian cause.
In a speech before the Council, Khattabi called for sustained and responsible action to secure the resilience of our “Arab Household” through diverse and advanced forms of Arab media cooperation.
Besides Arab media support for the Palestinian cause, the Council discussed ways to realize the objectives of the Arab Media Strategy 2022-2026, the role of media in addressing terrorism and fanaticism, the Arab Media Chart on realizing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 2030) and the inclusion of media as a study subject in member states’ educational systems.
Names of winners in the Media Excellence Award were announced at a ceremony held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Arab Information Ministers Council.
Sulaiman Ali Al Maamari from Oman won the “Best Arab Media Personality” prize on radio programmes that best serve sustainable goals. Meanwhile, Radio Sultanate of Oman’s “Economic Forum” programme bagged the “Best Radio Programme on Promoting Sustainable Development Efforts in the Arab Region”.
The Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation also honoured Dr. Mohammed Mubarak Al Araimi, Chairman of Omani Journalists Association (OJA).
Thus, he was granted the Pioneers prize along with Arab media men. The prize handing-over ceremony was held at Salaheddin Citadel in the presence of Arab Information Ministers.
