Muscat: The film “The Menor” by Omani director Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ajmi will participate in the Hurghada Youth Film Festival in the Egyptian Arab Republic during the period from September 21 to 26. The festival is witnessing a competition between 20 films for the Short Works Competition awards during its first session.
The jury includes filmmakers: Russian Roman Dorofeev, Saudi Omar Al-Jasser, and Sabri Fawaz from Egypt. Regarding participation in the festival, director Muhammad Al-Ajmi said: The participation of young people in such festivals is a great gain for them in terms of acquiring various skills in the field of filmmaking from different environments and cultures around the world.
He added: Through participation in international festivals, we seek to introduce the cultural heritage that the Sultanate is rich in, and to attract workers in the film field and motivate them to make films in the Sultanate of Oman. The film “The Minor” deals with the art of the Omani Zamat, how the teams prepare to start the competition by preparing the appropriate places, and the method of judging between the teams through the sweetness of the distinctive sound of the Minor, which reaches the depths and feelings of the listener, all in the form of a suspenseful documentary.
It is worth noting that the film Al Minor had previously participated in many local and international festivals, where at the local level it won the second place award at the Al Dakhiliya Film Festival in the documentary category, and the Best Omani Film award at the Al Sharqiya Film Festival, and at the international level it won the Audience Award at the Tire Film Festival in Lebanon. The film “The Menor” also participated in the 4th Casablanca International Film Festival and the 11th India Film Festival in the Republic of India.
