Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority, will participate on Wednesday in the Indian Ocean Waves Exercise “IOWave23”.
The National Emergency Management Committee, the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority, the Ministry of Information, and the Royal Oman Police are also participating in the exercise.
The exercise aims to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the early warning system of tsunami risks in the Indian Ocean, through the regional centers and national centres, and to verify the validity of the regional centers’ TSPs’ publication of tsunami bulletins to the centre, verify that the center receives those bulletins, and ensure that the procedures in place ensure the arrival of tsunami bulletins to the centre.
Tsunami warnings are sent to all members of the community, including people with disabilities, the elderly and youth.
It is noteworthy that this exercise is carried out once every two years and all countries bordering the Indian Ocean participate in it, and three regional centers (Indonesia, India and Australia) undertake its activation.
