Oman participates in the 11th meeting of Arab Committee of UN Experts on Geospatial Information Management

Doha: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the National Survey Authority of the Ministry of Defense, participated in the 11th meeting of the Arab Committee of the United Nations Experts on Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). The meeting, held in Qatar’s capital, Doha, from February 4 to 8 2024, witnessed the participation of 14 Arab delegations and various officials from the United Nations and international institutions. Additionally, a notable assembly of international experts in the field of geospatial information management was present.

The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman at the meeting was headed by Brigadier General Nasser bin Ali Al Harithi, Chairman of the National Survey Authority.

The National Survey Authority also participated with a working paper entitled “The First Geodetic Reference Based on Measurements of Always Operating Reference Stations,” presented by Officer Madani Yunus bin Saleh Bani Araba.

The meeting discussed existing means of cooperation between the member states of the committee appointed to manage geospatial data, and the importance of sharing the experiences and expertise of countries in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development goals in the same field.

The meeting also discussed the work of the teams emanating from the committee within the framework of integration of geospatial information, in addition to determining Future trends and standards in geospatial data management and sustainability of the global geodetic reference, and review of the report of the United Nations Panel of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM).
