Muscat: The Royal Oman Police issued a warning on Thursday about a new WhatsApp scam which defendants use the name of a local company to advertise the sale of a specific commodity.
In a statement ROP said: “The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigation monitored a fraudulent method in which the defendants use the name of a local company to advertise the sale of a specific commodity via the WhatsApp application, and after filling out the bank information in the electronic link attached to the advertisement, the sum of money is withdrawn from outside the Sultanate of Oman.”
The police advised citizens and residents not to open electronic links except after ensuring their reliability and not to disclose personal data or bank accounts through social media.
